Succinctly Yours- Flash Fiction

Grandma's Goulash regularly runs a Flash Fiction challenge. Here's my next installment of 140 words. The extra credit word is "expedient." Here's the picture that is to be the inspiration:

Here's my story:

Ralph basked in the late afternoon sun. His future was an open door! It would be so expedient to enter- the odor of slightly spoiled warm bologna wafted past. He allowed his mind to drift–to become one with the enticing aroma in which he was now bathed. Eugene and Tyson had long since flown through that portal into the heavenly realm beyond. Ralph hesitated for only one reason; his scouts had not returned. It was so unlike them to selfishly sate their own appetites without returning with bits of the treat stuck to their feet to present to him, the Fly King.

What could be the cause of their delay? Ralph knew that it was not prudent to follow without the report from Eugene and Tyson, but, overwhelmed by the temptation, he raised his wings and buzzed into the kitchen.

Succintly Yours- Flash Fiction

Grandma's Goulash regularly runs a Flash Fiction challenge. Quite a few people enter. Here's my next installment of fewer than 140 characters (you can choose 140 characters or 140 words). The extra credit word is "fabricate." Here's the picture that is to be the inspiration:

Here's my story:

"Fabricate clews? Never! I am the sleuth extraordinaire, not the butler who did it. Excuse me, I spy a mote of sinister dust."

Succintly Yours- Flash Fiction

Grandma's Goulash regularly runs a Flash Fiction challenge. So far I've been inspired every other week. Here's my next installment of 140 words. The extra credit word is "lavender." Here's the picture that is to be the inspiration:

Here's my story:

"...and lavender is such a nice color for a nursery, since we don’t know if the babies will be boys or girls or some of each. I want deluxe feather beds for each of the eggs, you know, the kind with eider down, that will be especially warm for our little ones. Are you listening, dear?"
"honk"
"See, I’ve been talking with Alexis, she’s the goose that lives down at the south end of the pond, and her nest is much better positioned than ours. She has a wonderful location with afternoon shade, but yet a good stretch of water between her and the fox. I realize that it’s not entirely your fault that we didn’t get here first this year to claim the best spot, but we really have to do something special to show her and Freddie that..."

Succintly Yours- Flash Fiction

I'm going to play again. I should be doing more serious things, but O well... The "extra credit" word is "glisten," and this time I wrote 140 words with the inspiration coming from this picture:

Here's my story:

“Hey Ma! Where did you go?”
“I looked out and the rain was glistening on the road. It reminded me that I needed to buy glitter and glue for Alyssa’s Brownie crafts, so I went to the dollar store.”
“Why are you walking in the middle of the road?”
“That way I can see the water glisten all around me. It reminds me of the beach.”
“Geez, Ma! That beach vacation was 18 years ago. Alyssa goes to the community college now.”
“Oh, Brian, you are such a joker. The Brownies meet on Tuesday afternoon.”
“I suppose they do. Hop on, Ma. I’ll take you home and Alyssa will fix you some nice warm tea.”
  “Do I know Alyssa?”
“Yes, Ma. Alyssa’s my daughter. Be good and ride home with me.”
“This is exciting. Good thing I wore my slacks.”

Succintly Yours- Flash Fiction

I've never done this before, but decided to play this once at least. Using this picture as a prompt, write a story of fewer than 140 words OR 140 characters. I chose 140 characters. Extra "credit" if you include the word "tempt."

Here's my story:

“Don’t tempt me, Joe.”
“Stop muttering while I set this monopod.”
“I warned you... one more morning chasing birds...”
“See it? A blue-footed booby!”
“Goodbye, Joe.”
