I Can't Believe She Said That! The Art of Writing Dialog

alt text

I am honored to be able to tell you that I'm appearing as a guest columnist at the Murder By 4 blog for writers this week. My article is about writing dialog, apparently one of my strong suits. At least my writers' group keeps telling me that!

Murder By 4 was selected as being in the 101 best blogs for writers by Writer's Digest in 2013.

Why Do Authors Blog?

Why do authors blog? Good question. I'm glad you asked.

The obvious answer is that they can't help themselves. Writers write, that's all there is to it.

The secondary reason is all tied up with marketing. In this day and age of easy electronic publishing, more than ever before, an author must convince people that there is some reason one should buy his or her writings.

Keeping a blog going will accomplish at least the following:
• it can prove to people that you can actually write
• it gives you a face and personality
• it demonstrates your commitment to your craft
• it gives you a forum to share snippets (or more) of your work, and to offer special discounts, etc
• it gives you an easy place to market your published works

So, now you know my bald-faced motives. If you would like to see what some other authors I know are saying, you can hop over to Authors I Know- You Should Too!

What am I Doing?

Against my better judgment, I'm starting another blog. This one has a specific purpose: to serve as an author blog, and a sort of accountability/credibility "thing."

More and more of my time is being spent writing. Some is creative, some is purely for money, but perhaps after six decades of life, I'm beginning to focus on one activity. Maybe. One can write about anything and still avoid focus, right?

So over the next few days I'll be trying to get this blog set up. Expect posts about writing of all kinds, and shameless promotion of scribblings.

Posts with dates older than this one have been migrated in from other places where they were posted, but which belong here.
